29 Nov Just Another Manic Monday?
Many UK retailers have christened today ‘Manic Monday’, with estimates of today’s online spending topping half a billion pounds.
The beginning of many major players’ Christmas sales being launched this weekend, along with many workers receiving their last pre-Christmas pay cheque, is expected to boost online trading more than 25% compared to last year. The impending rise in the UK VAT rate may also lure some people to buy who would otherwise have awaited the January sales.
Online trading is now being accepted more and more consumers as a normal and natural part of their shopping activities, which is no doubt a major factor in this dramatic increase, especially as Ofcom’s figures now show more than seven out of every ten UK homes have broadband internet access.
As the UK wakes today to another bout of bleak weather, dangerous roads and freezing temperatures, even more may be persuaded to turn to the computer for their purchases. Major online retailer Amazon is predicting that next Monday, December 6th, will be even busier.
